Anchorman
When I called my cousin Becky a few days ago to wish everyone a ¨Happy Thanksgiving¨ they told me the work I´m doing over here in Spain looks and sounds fantastic, but if only they knew what I was saying in my blog and in my facebook updates. And they´re right, I often neglect to explain the work I have been doing in my native language. So here I am writing this entry in English. I also kind of have that fear in the back of my head that if I don´t start writing again in English, someday I´ll completely lose my vocabulary. So here we go…what have I been up to lately…? (See? I´m already forgetting how to express myself.)
Well…last week I participated in the filming of the movie, ¨La Ignorancia de La Sangre,¨ a film directed by Manuel G. Pereira. Honestly I hadn´t seen any of his films, but he has worked with some of Spain´s biggest names like Javier Bardem, Victoria Abril, Juan Diego, etc… and has won a Goya, Spain´s equivalent to an Academy Award, so I was pretty thrilled to get the call to participate in the movie. It stars two of Spain´s new young stars, Paz Vega and Juan Diego Botto. I have a small role as a newsreporter, and had fun playing an anchorman and imaging myself as a young Tom Brokaw doing the nightly news on NBC. It was also great to see a pretty sizable Spanish movie being recorded in what I now call my city, Sevilla. In fact lately Sevilla has been the home to some pretty fantastic productions. So…after waiting a few hours (actually 11 hours, a new record for me) for them to call my name and getting a haircut and a bit of makeup put on, I heard the words ¨Action¨ (well…actually ¨Acción.¨), said my few lines and it was over. I had but just a brief taste of being Ron Burgandy and I´m hooked. Hopefully soon I´ll get to re-live the experience. (I envy you, Will Ferrell)
